Skincare

Let me start off by making one thing clear; I am not a skin care expert, I hold no degrees or licenses in the treatment and care of skin. The purpose of this page is to provide readers with general information on skin care based on my own experiences, and the experiences of those I know. I will not get into the science of skin care because I do not know much about it but what I do know is; it is important to care for your skin. This is the first thing people see when they look at you and we all should strive to keep it looking clean and healthy.

Being a woman, I know there are several factors that can impact the health of our skin: puberty, menstrual cycle, stress, diet, sun exposure and neglect to name a few. Though we cannot control all the elements that impact our skin on a daily basis, we can take the proper precautions to lessen the impact they have on our skin.

Steps to Healthier Skin

Cleansing/Moisturizing

  • Properly cleansing your skin with the right product for your skin type is the first time. Using bar soaps, or liquid cleansers if the first step to clear ad healthy skin because this process removes dirt, makeup and other impurities from your skin. In addition to cleansing, it is recommended you use a daily moisturizer for your skin type (dry, oily, combination, normal, acne-prone, eczema, etc.).

Diet

  • Maintaining a balanced diet has several benefits. It is great for your overall health and eating the proper nutrients will have a positive impact on the health of your skin, hair, and nails. With that said, minimize your daily fat intake and increase your daily servings of fruits and vegetables.

Vitamins

  • Many of us are on-the-go folks and do not have the time, or let’s face it, the money to eat healthy. Taking vitamins is a great way to replace the nutrients we are not receiving from foods. There are many vitamins out there that promote healthier hair and skin. It is important to read the labels to ensure the proper dosage is being consumed.

Reduce Sun Exposure

  • Sun exposure is damaging to all skin types; especially individuals of fairer complexions. It is important to always use sunscreen if you are going to be in the sun for an extended period of time in order to minimize damage to your skin.  Also, most moisturizer now come with some level of protection from the sun; therefore, when choosing a moisturizer, it is recommended that one with an SPF is chosen.

Natural Products

  • There has been a huge shift to using natural products for the skin and hair in the last decade and this has increased tremendously in the last few years. This shift can be seen in department stores all over the world; a wide selection of paraben free, and products with natural ingredients are now available to the mass market. In the DIY Recipes page, you will find ingredients for hair and skin care products that you can make using common household products, and have great benefits to the skin and hair.

You only get one skin, proper care of it will ensure that it remains healthy and youthful for many years to come.
